Have a look at how we created this garden:

  • the old staircase

    Brief

This garden is on a steeply sloping, triangular plot with complicated level changes.
Added to this, our clients felt that, given that the property was located in a conservation area, they wanted to keep the front garden fairly traditional in design, whilst the back garden could be more contemporary to complement their interior decor - an interesting design challenge altogether!

  • designer handrail by front door

    Solution

The first step in the front garden was to remove the vast expanse of concrete and paving, and to re-route the path from the pavement to the front door so that the door is approached ‘head-on’ rather than from the side. This makes for an altogether more imposing and welcoming entrance.

  • gate to front garden

A solid gate was added in the hedge to give visitors a ‘secret garden’ experience on entering.

  • bird bath in front garden

A curving lawn, feature bird bath and (what will become) flower-filled planting beds all add to the traditional country garden style.

  • bespoke steps to back garden

The back garden was given a contemporary makeover with a design which helps counteract the long, narrow shape by introducing a series of squares and rectangles, making the garden appear wider.

  • decking with raised beds

A decked area surrounded by raised beds with perfumed planting and a natural stone water feature sits at the end, making use of the awkward angles.

  • designer handrail on balcony

Next to the house a pergola covered balcony affords great views down over the whole garden.

  • curved path and steps

Finally, whereas previously there had been no access front to back, unless you actually went right down into the rear garden, a new path and steps were constructed.

  • bespoke railings

Bespoke, powder-coated balustrades were added for a unique and stylish finish.
