Lime Technology
Lime Technology brought the walls to our Garden Design at Hampton Court last year. A building technology based company, they use material science, building systems, manufacturing techniques and on site applications to bring a sustainable, durable product, that in fact has a Negative Carbon Footprint!
The product they used on our Garden Design, is called Tradical Hemcrete, which is cast in-situ Hemp Lime Walling. The building trade was crying out for a way to reduce its carbon emissions, and Tradical Hemcrete was the answer.
Tradical Hemcrete locks up around 110kg of CO2 per m³ actually reversing the harmful effects of Co2 emissions, giving the user a 'Negative Carbon Footprint'
Plant a hectare with hemp, wait 14 weeks and you’ve got enough to build a house that can offer a less than zero carbon footprint. That’s the nub of the environmental case for hemp and lime-based Tradical® Hemcrete® and one reason why it seems to be becoming the material of choice for an increasing number of eco-aware builders.
Besides shooting up at a rate of knots and locking up copious CO2 in the process, hemp has other attractions as an environmentally sound, commercial crop. It doesn’t need chemical spraying and it suppresses weeds and pests.
Produced mainly from renewable resources, Tradical® Hemcrete® is a thermal hemp-lime walling solution. Unique and highly sustainable, it is a blend of specially prepared hemp shiv and a special lime based binder which together form a bio-composite building material.
The product provides one of the best value materials for low impact sustainable construction. The solution delivers high thermal and acoustic insulation, low density, excellent water vapour permeability, high flexural strength and high carbon capture. Tradical® Hemcrete® also helps to reduce the atmospheric concentration of CO2 by locking up harmful CO2 emissions within the material and in turn the wall construction (hemp, in common with all similar plants, captures carbon dioxide during its rapid growth and releases oxygen back out to the atmosphere).
The product can be poured like cast concrete and also used in spray form. It is also available in easy to use block form, both structural and non structural form.
