Have a look at how we created this garden:
-
Brief
Our clients owned a ground floor flat that had the benefit of a relatively large, if awkwardly shaped garden for the average in the area.
Access was good, too good in fact, the previous occupier having demolished the boundary wall to the rear exposing the garden to an access road. Security was obviously a big concern.
-
The garden itself consisted of broken paving slabs and weeds and was very overlooked on all sides.
Our clients wanted somewhere private, secure and tranquil.
-
Solution
Our first concern was to give our clients the security and privacy they needed, however as this was a listed building, we had first to approach the local council for permissions. The relevant applications having been made, we were able to construct a new wall in reclaimed stocks to match the original, as in the neighbouring properties, and to erect fencing to both sides.
-
The design for the paved areas was for circles within squares laid diamond-wise down the garden. This had the apparent effect of widening the space and, with lush planting to either side, the boundaries would soon become disguised. An ugly manhole cover which dominated the view from a basement home office was lowered and hidden within an attractive planting bed.
-
Our clients now have a relaxing, beautiful, low maintenance garden they can enjoy together and with friends without the goldfish bowl effect!
