Glenwhan Gardens

Following on from my blog of a couple of weeks ago, whilst in the same area of Scotland, not very far from Stranraer, we also visited Glenwhan Gardens.

These are surprisingly new gardens, only having been established in the 1970s when the current owner bought the run down farm house and its wild and untamed surrounding land. You wouldn’t believe it though as the gardens look so well established!

There are 12 acres of water gardens and winding paths leading to breath-taking viewpoints over Luce Bay, the Mull of Galloway and the Isle of Man – simply stunning and well worth a visit.

As with many Scottish gardens, the soil has a low PH, in this case 4.5, so it is well suited for acid loving plants such as Rhododendrons and Azaleas, as shown in some of our pics below.
