Contemporary & Modern Gardens

At Floral & Hardy we have a wide range of experience in designing modern and contemporary gardens that work in harmony with their surroundings.

We always take the context of a garden into consideration and work in conjuction with you to make sure that we achieve your perfect garden.

Chic with Kids

This was the invaluable outside space that came with our clients’ garden flat in a prestigious area of London but it was impractical for the young family.

Our clients requested a practical, but beautiful design with real ‘wow’ factor.

Contemporary Waterside

This was a very interesting project in that the garden was on an island in the middle of the Thames only accessible by footbridge.

Forest Hill to Beverley Hills

This was a suburban garden on a steeply sloping site, rising up at the back of the house via some very steep steps, rendering much of the garden unusable.

Garden Room

Our clients wanted an interesting and inviting space with a contemporary feel, to act as an extension to their dining and living areas – somewhere they could entertain and relax.

Up on the Roof

The roof terrace has spectacular views over interesting surrounding buildings, including the Natural History Museum, but the inhospitable, exposed, sloping space made entertaining and relaxing difficult.

Traditional but Modern

Our clients wanted to open up the garden revealing it’s true size, whilst still retaining it’s traditional character. They also had a big birthday party in the garden coming up, so time was of the essence!

Professional Couple's Entertainment Oasis

In order to increase the apparent width of the space, a series of rectangles set on an angle were created, consisting of a deck immediately outside the bi-fold doors leading to paving and lawns.

Glass Balustrade & Bifold Doors

This garden was on two levels with a small well area outside the basement kitchen.

Modern & Traditional Meet

This garden is on a steeply sloping, triangular plot with complicated level changes.

Double Dutch

Rather than go with straight lines and angles, we chose a bold circular theme for the design, which ties in very well with the 1930’s style of the house.

Love a Triangle

The plot was broadly triangular, which has its own design challenges, and our clients wanted a strong scheme with a contemporary edge to complement their interior furnishings and to provide interest throughout the year.

Inside Out

The garden of an eighteenth century cottage in a conservation area.

Our client had a very hectic lifestyle, but wanted to be able to use her garden as a valuable outside entertaining space and as somewhere to relax after a busy day.

Path to Enlightenment

The existing rectangular patio lead us to this design and we decided to square off the rather awkwardly shaped plot  and divide it with a series of rectangles forming the lawn, play area, path and planting beds.

Garden Gym

This was a small suburban garden who's owners wanted to also turn a small garage into a gym that overlooked the garden.

An Olympian's Oasis

This was a bungalow-style property in Brentwood, Essex that was undergoing a complete transformation and effectively being rebuilt.

On Top of the World

This is a large roof terrace wrapping around three sides of a modern city apartment in Camden, North West London. The significant glazing to the apartment takes advantage of the far-reaching views towards Hampstead Heath to the north-west and the City of London to the south-east and our clients wanted a garden they could be proud of from which to enjoy them.
