At Floral & Hardy we have a wide range of experience in designing modern gardens and contemporary gardens that work in harmony with their surroundings.
When we think about designing a modern garden we naturally look at the context in which we will be creating the garden and work in conjunction with you to ensure we achieve your perfect garden. If you are looking for modern garden ideas or ways to add contemporary touches to your outdoor space, here are some designs we prepared earlier(!). To look at the final garden, click on the image or the name of the garden.

The property’s interiors have been finished to a very high standard and the garden was designed to achieve flow between the two spaces.
Beautiful Travertine stone was chosen for the patio and steps for its clean, elegant lines and to complement the existing garden furniture.
Raised beds and contemporary cedar trellis work frame the vibrant entertaining area, which comes alive at night with an exciting lighting scheme.

This was a very interesting project in that the garden was on an island in the middle of the Thames only accessible by footbridge. This obviously had implications logistically as all materials would have to be brought to site by barge.
The small site consisted of some very uneven paving on two levels making it virtually unusable for entertaining as there was insufficient space for a table and chairs.
Our clients brief was both to rectify this problem and to introduce a nautical theme, to include a ‘ship’s rail’ as a barrier to the drop to the river. Safety was obviously an issue, particularly as our clients were expecting their first child.

Our clients wanted a contemporary outside space that they could use for entertaining and for their children to relax and play in. They also needed some storage. The original design included a hot tub, but after some deliberation this idea was shelved and the space used to house the barbecue instead.

Our clients wanted an interesting and inviting space with a contemporary feel, to act as an extension to their dining and living areas – somewhere they could entertain and relax.
The first task was to produce a design that would disguise the size and boxy shape of the garden, albeit the client had expressed a preference for angles and straight lines as opposed to curves.
