Family Garden Design

When designing a family garden, we realise that it has to be a practical space that must be fit for so many uses - from a children’s play area, to a stylish area for when the grown-ups want to entertain!

We work with you by taking any inspiration and family garden ideas you already have and incorporate them into the design. Whatever your idea - we can build it!

Have a look at some of our previous Child Friendly Garden Designs below and more can be found in our

Family Gardens portfolio

Long garden made to look wider

Family Garden

An uninteresting lawn stretched from one end to the other with a dip in the middle and a shed at one end.

The aim was to provide the two small children with some dedicated play space and a pleasing garden for the adults to enjoy.

Small garden with storage hidden underneath the seating

Hidden Underground Storage

This was the tiny garden to a terraced Victorian house belonging to a young family.Coming from Australia, our couple really missed the outside space for barbecuing and entertaining.

Family garden with lush planting in front of the pavilion

Pavilion Garden

We designed a black limestone terrace adjacent to the new building to provide the smart, contemporary feel our clients wanted, but surrounded it with a timber handrail to tie in with the colonial feel of the new structure. Lush, tropical-style planting completes the look.

Family garden with a sunken trampoline

Sunken Trampoline

The family wanted a practical, but attractive garden for play and for entertaining. One important consideration was that the children wanted to include a trampoline.

Suburban family garden with spring planting

Large Suburban

Our clients asked us for a larger deck area by the house, together with another seating area - further down the garden to use at different times of the day to take advantage of the sun. They also wanted a more natural area to the rear with a woodland feel.

Contemporary family garden with round table

Round in Circles

The design introduced interest to what otherwise could have been a large uninteresting expanse of grass by incorporating large interlocking brick circles. These were laid at the level of the lawn for ease of mowing.

Urban family garden with glass balcony to let the light through

Glass Balcony

A steep staircase with high risers and narrow treads down from the drawing room made this a potentially treacherous space for the children, or adults alike, as well as taking up garden space.

Long thin garden with traditional planting

Long Thin Suburban

Our clients had two small children and wanted a play area with a lawn and space for the grown-ups too, including a dining area near to the house and a large workshop at the rear of the garden.

Garden witj intimate arbour seat

Professional's Haven

Our client asked for something stylish and contemporary with clean lines near the house.

To avoid the eye being drawn straight to the end of the garden, she also requested that some curves be introduced.

Small urban garden with hidden trampoline under astro turf

Hidden Trampoline

As with most gardens this size, and with a young family, space was at a premium and our clients wanted somewhere they could relax and entertain, and where their children could play.

Large family garden with traditional english garden plants

From Russia with Love

Although well kept, the garden had been planted in a rather unimaginative way with boring shrubs and little seasonal colour.

Our clients wanted a traditional English country style garden with some formal touches.

Lovely arbour over natural sandstone paving

From Harbour to Arbour

The garden was dominated by a large swimming pool and as the children were grown up so instead our clients wanted a tranquil seating area surrounded by beautiful planting in which to entertain and relax.

Traditional modern garden with curving path

Traditional but Modern

Our clients wanted to open up the garden revealing it’s true size, whilst still retaining it’s traditional character. They also had a big birthday party in the garden coming up, so time was of the essence!

Traditional style garden with modern raised flower beds

Double Dutch

Rather than go with straight lines and angles, we chose a bold circular theme for the design, which ties in very well with the 1930’s style of the house.

Modern shade sail for a continental feel

The Tardis

Our clients had fond memories of holidays in the south of France and wanted to re-create something of a rustic French feel in their tiny London garden, using materials to suit the age of their property.

Chic with Kids

This was the invaluable outside space that came with our clients’ garden flat in a prestigious area of London but it was impractical for the young family.

Our clients requested a practical, but beautiful design with real ‘wow’ factor.

Garden Kitchen

This was a substantial new-build property in a private road with views over a golf course.
