Family Gardens » Large Suburban Garden
This was a large suburban garden in West Wickham with a small deck area near to the house, some trees and little else.
Brief:

This was a large suburban garden with a small deck area near to the house, some trees and little else.
A conservatory had been built to one side in which our clients felt overlooked from both sides and which had caused some problems with drainage in the garden. There was also a large drop to the lawn level from the house which our clients weren’t sure how to deal with.
They asked us for a larger deck area by the house, together with another seating area - further down the garden to use at different times of the day to take advantage of the sun. They also wanted a more natural area to the rear with a woodland feel.
Solution:

The new deck was designed to wrap around the house and rendered raised beds constructed to take care of the change in level. The lush planting in these beds then helped to provide privacy from the neighbours.
The drainage problem was dealt with by the construction of a soakaway so that the new lawn could be laid. This was designed with a curving path leading the eye across the garden to a drilled boulder water feature from which bubbles over cobbles to one side.
At the end of the path lies a large circular sandstone patio sheltered by a semi-circular pergola over which scented climbers will in time clamber. The pergola partially conceals the wild garden to the rear with its wild flower meadow, woodland and carefully placed tree seat.
This garden has all the different elements our clients requested but it works as an integrated whole and this, together with planting to provide year-round interest, makes this a garden that can really be enjoyed whatever the mood, whatever the season.
