Long Thin Gardens » Professional Couple's Entertainment Oasis

This was the typical long, narrow garden of a semi-detached, older style, suburban property in New Malden

This was the typical long, narrow garden of a semi-detached, older style, suburban property, unfortunately made to appear even narrower by the siting of a substantial brick built and rendered shed to one side of it.

The owners wanted to make the space appear wider and to create different seating areas at either end of the garden. The house itself had been totally refurbished in contemporary style and the garden had to reflect this. Privacy was also an important issue.

Solution:

In order to increase the apparent width of the space, a series of rectangles set on an angle were created, consisting of a deck immediately outside the bi-fold doors leading to paving and lawns.

A second seating area was created towards the rear of the garden, screened from neighbours with tall planting.

Black limestone was used for all the paved areas to match the colour of the flooring used inside the house.

The seating area next to the house was given added interest with contemporary raised planting beds and the neighbour’s ugly garage wall was disguised with bespoke hardwood trellis.
