Small Gardens
Designing a small garden is just as challenging as designing a bigger space.
At Floral & Hardy we are proud of the quality of our small garden designs. We take great care in evey step from the initial planning through to the sourcing of materials, project managing the construction, planning the planting and of course, taking care of all the finishing touches.

Our client envisaged a space completely transformed from its blank canvas, typical of a new build house, to a beautiful garden

Secret at the End of the Garden
These are the gardens to a modern terraced house in a quiet cul-de-sac in Carshalton, Surrey.

This is the back garden to a substantial Edwardian terraced house in Streatham with many attractive period features.

This garden was the small, shady, north-facing garden to a relatively new build house on a private estate.

Glass Balustrades & Bi-fold Doors
This garden was on two levels with a small well area outside the basement kitchen.

Re-inventing a New Build House
This was new build property in with the typical new build garden – boring turf concealing builders’ rubble and an unimaginative area of deck had been laid.

This was a new build property and the garden was typically very small, laid to lawn with a few paving slabs outside the back door.

As with most gardens this size, and with a young family, space was at a premium and our clients wanted somewhere they could relax and entertain, and where their children could play.

The existing plot sloped up away from the house and was rather tired in appearance. The deck at the rear was a particular eyesore.

This was a very interesting project in that the garden was on an island in the middle of the Thames only accessible by footbridge.

This was a suburban garden on a steeply sloping site, rising up at the back of the house via some very steep steps, rendering much of the garden unusable.

This was the tiny garden to a terraced Victorian house belonging to a young family.Coming from Australia, our couple really missed the outside space for barbecuing and entertaining.

Our first concern with this garden was to give our clients the security and privacy they needed but as this was a listed building, we had first to approach the local council for permissions.

Small Courtyard for Lady of Leisure
Our client wanted an interesting, easy to look after patio garden with a traditional feel, but did not want a symmetrical design typical of many such schemes. She wanted something a bit ‘different’.

Our brief was for a practical space our clients could use to relax and entertain in, but the plot was divided awkwardly by a step making use of a table and chairs impossible.

This was a postage-stamp back garden typical of London Victorian properties, but the tiny courtyard had been laid wholly to deck with no planting to speak of.

This is a basement flat in a large Victorian terraced house and the garden space was divided into several smaller areas for the use of its various tenants.

This was a typical long, narrow suburban garden with an ugly concrete patio and a boring rectangular lawn with sparse planting.
