Brief:

This was a suburban garden on a steeply sloping site, rising up over 2.5ms within 3ms of the back of the house via some very steep steps, rendering much of the garden unusable.

There was a small decked area, but too small for entertaining and a lawn at the top of the site. In its rather inhospitable state, our clients did not feel inclined to use it and it had become more of a storage area than a play area for their children.

Solution:

Our clients wanted a contemporary outside space that they could use for entertaining and for their children to relax and play in. They also needed some storage. The original design included a hot tub, but after some deliberation this idea was shelved and the space used to house the barbecue instead.

We created a large circular patio area near to the house using elegant cream Travertine stone, surrounded by curved rendered walls with built in hardwood storage benches and dramatic blue LED lighting. Raised beds filled with semi-tropical planting enhance the sense of drama with architectural foliage and vibrant colours.

The contemporary steel water feature is an imposing focal point and adds the exciting dimension of sound.

Curved steps lead to a small lawn and summerhouse. The addition of a custom-built play structure, make this an area for the children and adults alike to enjoy.

The result is a multi-functional outside space with a definite ‘wow’ factor
