Garden Lighting Design

Garden lighting can have such a wonderful impact on your garden, whether that be a flower filled cottage garden, a beautifully landscaped estate or a contemporary city roof terrace.

The first thing to decide when designing your lighting features is the function that you would like the lighting to fulfil. A popular requirement is to highlight certain elements such as trees, shrubs, water features, seating areas, outdoor kitchens and swimming pools. Another aspect of lighting is to fulfil safety requirements such as path and step lighting, security lighting and simply a way to guide visitors to your door.

General illumination of a house is a particularly impressive option or perhaps patio lighting for alfresco dining or barbeque lighting so that you can prepare food easily.

Deciding on your lighting needs will help you to determine what particular lights, switches and circuits to go for. Not forgetting the weatherproof and waterproof housing components and then deciding on a style that is discreet, recessed, adjustable and made in a material which suits your style and that of your garden.

For something a bit different, colour changing LED lighting can add a completely new dimension to your outdoor space. Here at Floral and Hardy we have installed lighting that at a flick of a switch can change according to the seasons or your mood. White light is the classic look for exterior lighting but really, there are no limits to what you can achieve with colour changing LED’s.

The great thing about lighting is that period properties and traditional patios can take modern lights just as well as a contemporary garden. Features in a beautiful cottage garden can be subtly lit so as still to retain the old traditional rustic style. Illuminated planters can be extremely striking in any type of home and strings of lights can create the most magical night time space.
