Starting a Career in Garden Design

Find out how to graduate in garden design and plantsmanship

Its opening foundation degree in Garden Design and Plantsmanship will take-off this autumn in collaboration with the Royal Agricultural University (RAU), Cirencester.

The new foundation degree is intended for working professionals and those seeking to start a career as a garden designer.

The Vice principal of the University said: “We are hugely excited to be debuting our foundation degree and honoured to be working with the RAU whose nationwide and global standing for higher education is simply the best. This course contains many ground-breaking features not seen in other courses such as the new high-end software and initiative skills.

Some of the undergraduates design and construct show gardens at the Chelsea Flower Show, Hampton Court Flower Show and the Ideal Home Show as well as constructing gardens for other customers. The contrast is that our students steer these ventures on their own with tutors offering support and guidance if they ever need it.

It’s great to see garden design taken more seriously through higher education. This can only make Britain’s gardens more abundant and better than ever. The only problem is that we’re encouraging competition. So we’ll have to try our hardest to stay one step ahead.

When choosing a professional garden designer it’s important to ensure that you are talking to someone who understands your needs and ideas and someone who will provide you with a beautiful home garden design that is created in full consultation with you. All Floral & Hardy gardens are created by Helen Ellison who has years of experience and the qualifications when it comes to creating beautiful, hand drawn designer gardens that are bespoke to you.

Here at Floral & Hardy we are proud of our hand-drawn designs. The garden design is produced in partnership with you to create a garden that is unique to you.

We have been designing and building gardens for many years and the results are stunning.

All our designs are hand drawn after consultation with you not only about the features you want but also about how you want to use your garden and what colours you would like for each season.

We have worked on many projects with lots of challenges to overcome. We have had to remove soil by taking it through the house when there was no access to the back – we’ve even transported everything across to a garden on an island by barge!

When you have your garden designed and built by Floral & Hardy, the teams who work with you on site are professional, hardworking and ensure that the process goes as smoothly as it can.
