Our Helmingham Hall Gardens Tour
A few weeks ago we visited Helmingham Hall near Stowmarket in Suffolk, unfortunately in the rain, but that didn’t spoil our enjoyment of its beautiful gardens and surroundings.
The Hall was completed in 1510 and has been the home of the Tollemache family ever since. The current Lady Tollemache is a Chelsea Gold Medallist and her skills are definitely apparent in the impressive walled garden with its abundant vegetables and fruits and the colourful herbaceous borders.
There are also formal rose and knot gardens, a wild garden with fledgling woodland and even a moat!
To add to this the grounds include a deer park which provide the opportunity for close encounters with some magnificent cattle, as well as the very appealing red and fallow deer.
Their tea rooms provide a very friendly service too, so, all in all, I can thoroughly recommend a visit.
The garden closes on 21st September, but will open again on 1st May next year, so don’t forget to plan your visit!
